Digital Services

Once again, Shire is pleased to be sponsoring a series of digital services at the ERA-EDTA congress this year. We hope that they will prove useful and enhance your congress experience.

Wi-Fi service
The Wi-Fi connection will be available in the main areas of the congress centre during ERA-EDTA and will be clearly signposted. You can access the service from your mobile phone, tablet, or laptop computer.

Once at the congress centre, your badge number will be all you need to access the free Wi-Fi connection. Follow these simple steps to connect:

1) Go to the Wi-Fi settings on your device.
2) Select the network "WIFIBYSHIRE" and enter password (available on site).
3) Open your browser and follow the instructions to gain access to the Wi-Fi connection.

Congress app
This useful tool serves as a convenient guide to the event, with key information contained all in one place. You can download the ERA-EDTA congress app to your smart phone or tablet before you arrive at the congress centre; just search for “ERA-EDTA 2014” on the Apple or Google Play stores.

What is on the congress app?

- Congress programme and maps
- Session and symposium details
- Exhibitor information
- A facility to register for, and use, the unique e-materials order service
- Information on the digital services at the congress
- Access to Twitter and Instagram

E-materials service
Have you ever wanted to take away slides from a congress session, eliminating the need to take notes and letting you focus on the discussion? Or, have you ever had to miss a session that you were hoping to attend due to timetable clashes? The e-materials service enables you to order available presentations, which you can then access directly after the congress. Simply collect your SMART Card at the bag collection desk, or use the e-materials module on the congress app, and you are ready to go!

What are e-materials?
Each e-material represents one presentation during a scientific session.
You can order a presentation if the speaker has released his slides for dissemination.
Once you confirm an order you can access the e-material by viewing and downloading the pdf. file of the released speaker slides or streaming the webcast of their presentation.

How do I order e-materials at the congress?
This year, we have increased the number of ways in which you can order e-materials:

- Swipe your SMART Card on the e-reader in lecture rooms
- Use the app and scan or manually enter the material code at the end of the related presentation
- Visit the Digital Service Area (where you can also order e-materials from sessions you have missed)
How many e-materials can I order?

You can order (add to cart) as many materials as you like during the congress.
These will automatically appear on your e-materials order page, also accessible through the congress app.

Following your order, you will be able to access a set number of e-materials, which is dependent on the number of ‘e-points’ you have (see below for further information about ‘e-points’). At the end of the congress, you can choose which of the materials you would like to access, view and download (check-out), and which ones you don’t want to keep.

How do I access my chosen e-materials?

- Review your orders:
On the official congress app
Online at
- At the end of the congress, confirm which materials you would like to access, according to the number of ‘e-points’ you have acquired
- Following the congress, you will be emailed to gain access to your selected e-materials
‘E-points’ system

We will be using a system of ‘e-points’ to determine how many e-materials you can access at the end of the congress. Each e-point grants you access to one e-material order. Each registered delegate will receive 15 e-points automatically and you can also earn additional e-points through the following activities:
- Signing up for ERA-EDTA membership (for new members only) 10 e-points
- Visiting the Shire Hospitality Area    1 e-point
- Visiting the DSA and accessing the e-materials introduction 5 e-points
- Registering for the congress app 3 e-points
- Visiting 7 scientific sessions 5 e-points
- Registering for          2 e-points
- Registering for the Shire Knowledge Exchange       3 e-points
- Registering for information about e-materials 2 e-points
